Getting ready to take the first major trip on the new wing. Leaving Louisiana, going to N. Dakota, taking in parts of Texas, Okla., Kansas, Neb., S. Dak. Will leave N. Dak., and head over in to Montana, before turning south heading back home. Any tips to see along the way is appreciated. Will only be gone a week, so will be spending some long days in the saddle. If you see an Illusion Red with La. tags, give a wave.

Mark,
Hitting that many states in one week will not let you see very much other than what flies by on the side of the road. Take it from someone who has ridden to 46 of the lower 48. Cut the distance and enjoy the sights. It's bad to get home and read about some interesting place that you have sailed by because you didn't have time to stop.

In Montana, Glacier Nat. park is a must. Highway To The Sun and Many Glacier is a must.
We saw a Grizzly traveling Many Glacier last year.

I enjoyed Scott's Bluff in Nebraska. You can take a ride to the top of the bluff. Being a history nut who's interested in the Western emigration, I spent quite a while in the museum. But like Geezer says, it may not be possible to stop for long periods like this if you're on a deadline. We just completed a 9000 mile trip around the country, and there were some days where we got so interested in things that we put on very little mileage. It's not the destination, but the journey that counts!

if you have the time while in north dakota spend a night at medora, nd and see the musical. it is in an outdoor ampitheater and something you wont see everyday. also attend the "pitchfork fondue"- spending but worth it "once in a lifetime". we just returned from a trip from ND through south dakota, wyoming, idaho, oregon, washington, and montana. had a marvelous time!!!! and yes "the road to the sun" is spectacular but lots of construction. e-mail me if you have any questions!!!!!

If you are coming through Kansas, try to visit the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson, Kansas. They have some wonderful displays of space craft, including the Apollo 13 capsule. They have a lunar lander and one of those neat little cars they drove on the moon. If you go through Abilene, the Eisenhower museum is worth a look. If you spend the night in Abilene, make reservations and eat at the Brookville Hotel. Arrive Hungry!!! If you visit Topeka, stop at the State Historical Society Museum on the west side of town. I agree with WR Taylor above on Scotts Bluff, Nebr. Also, see the Chimney Rock located about 40 miles west. In South Dakota, visit the Custer State Park near Rapid City. Be sure to ride the wildlife loop. Have a great trip.
