Has anyone tried one of these MP3 players in a GL1500 cassette deck? If so, how does it sound?

In general, MP3 is ok. Lose some quality, but have to listen to hear it. Probably won't notice it at all unless you are an audiophile. So when rolling down the road, will sound ok.

Some people think that the metal to metal contact is bad for the tape head. I don't know, that tape head is pretty hard material, designed to withstand miles and miles of tape running past. It would be simple enough to put a piece of scotch tape over the contacting parts.

I think it would be a pain to load that type of player every time you wanted different music. Personally, I am waiting for a CDR-CDRW-DVD-MP3 changer with remote, for my GL1200. Get hours on a CD with MP3. Expect to see one within the next three months, probably about $200.

I use my Cassiopeia Pocket PC with a couple of 128 meg cards and a cassette adapter with no problems. I took the cassette adapter apart and moved the head back so it does not rub on the bike's cassette head. Works like a champ and the pocket pc comes in handy while on the road. I will be getting a Compaq portable CD MP3 player when it comes out. It has rechargable batterries, an FM radio, and a wireless remote. The Rio Volt looks pretty good. It has a wired remote so you can hide the MP3 player in one of the fairing pockets and just use the remote to change songs. I convert my own CD's to MP3's so the quality is excellent. A lot better than a remote CD changer with the FM modulator. One MP3 CD holds 10 hours of music in MP3 format and about 20 hours of music in WMA format. I have and indash MP3 player in my truck and just need to carry 5 MP3 CD's with me to have all my music.

I have a Memorex personal MP3 CD player kind of like the cd walkmans. Plays regular cd's as well. I Use it with a tape adapter which it came with and the cig adapter also included and get 10-12 hours of music on a single cd. Works great and was only 75 clams at target last christmas. But the real kicker was today I replaced the crappy factory speakers with a set of alpine speakers that made a dramatic increase in the sound quality and the volume level of the system as well. I can roll down the road at 80 and hear it perfectly. There is actually a hint of bass in the music now. Model # SPS-1029S. Direct screw in replacements. Cost was 70 bucks. Ride safe!
