Is there a way to have my computer start without loading every damn program I have in it starting at the same time? I don't always need PhotoDelux or the word processor when I start to surf the net or get email. Thankx for all the help from this board...Rick....

All of the programs that have started should have an icon at the bottom of our screen (I assume you are using Windows 95 - 00). Just right click on the icons and, go to preferences.
When you click on Preferences - look for start up and, you will see a choice to start the program up when you log on or when windows open.
Let me know if this helps - if you need another way, we can go from the Start Menu.

Rick, open Windows Explorer and go to C:\WINDOWS\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp
There you will find shortcuts to most of, but not all, the programs that are opening on boot. The others will have something in thier setup about whether to open on Start or not.
Delete these shortcuts and it should speed up your boot-up process.

If you are running Win95 or Win98:
Click Start
Click Run
type: msconfig
MSCONFIG is where you select what runs at startup. There are certain things you shouldn't putz with - systray, for example - but you can remove any applications you find in there.
